Terms of Use

Effective 21 October 2026 · Android app IDs com.lanelens.app (Google Play) and com.lanelens.v2 (test builds)

These terms are an agreement between you and MunkinFactory ("we", "us"), which publishes LaneLens ("the app") as part of the BowlBrain suite. By installing or using the app, or by joining a LaneLens beta, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

1. Your licence

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial bowling practice and coaching. The app is licensed, not sold. We and our licensors keep all rights not expressly given to you, including all rights in the app's software, its machine-learning models (their weights and training data), its algorithms, designs and content.

If you get the app from Google Play, Google Play's terms also apply. Where they conflict with these terms about the store itself, the store's terms win.

2. What you may not do

Except where the law gives you a right that a contract can't take away, you may not, and may not help or let anyone else:

• reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or decrypt the app or any part of it, or try to work out its source code, models or algorithms;
• extract, copy or reuse the app's machine-learning models (for example its ball and lane detectors), their weights or their outputs to train, test or build another model or product;
• get around, disable or tamper with any security, encryption, licence or integrity check in the app or its services;
• modify the app, make derivative works of it, or remove any notice in it;
• copy, sell, rent, lend, sublicense, publish or otherwise distribute the app or any part of it, including the installation file (APK or app bundle);
• use the app or its output to build or improve a competing product or service;
• access our services (such as the feedback, analytics or model-key services) other than through the app as intended, or overload, scrape or attack them.

Breaking these rules ends your licence automatically (section 7), and we may also take legal action.

3. Beta testing

If you join a LaneLens beta (through Google Play testing or Firebase App Distribution), these extra terms apply:

• Confidential. Beta builds and unreleased features are confidential. Don't share the build, invite links or install files, and don't publish screenshots, recordings or reviews of unreleased features without our OK. Sharing clips of your own bowling, and the stats LaneLens showed you, is fine.
• Expect bugs. Beta builds can crash, mis-track or lose data. Keep your own copy of anything that matters.
• Shots you send or share. If you tap Send on a shot, or turn on Help improve tracking (which shares some shots automatically on Wi-Fi), you confirm you're allowed to share those videos (for example, nobody else is clearly identifiable in it without their OK), and you let us use the video and its data to check and improve LaneLens, including training our tracking models. We keep them up to 12 months.
• Feedback. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them to improve LaneLens and other BowlBrain products, without owing you anything for them.
• It can end. We may end the beta, or your place in it, at any time.

4. What the stats are

LaneLens estimates the ball's path, speed, boards, angles, rev rate and similar numbers from phone video. Results depend on the camera position, calibration, lighting, lane and device, and they can be wrong. They are for practice and coaching only. They are not certified measurements, so don't rely on them where accuracy matters (for example equipment purchases, wagers or official records). Use the app safely and follow your bowling centre's rules on filming.

5. Your content

Clips, shots and notes you create stay on your phone and remain yours; we don't claim them. If you choose to send us something (feedback, a crash log or a clip), you allow us to use it to support you and to improve LaneLens. The Privacy Policy explains what the app sends and when.

6. No warranty, limited liability

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. To the same extent, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, arising from your use of the app, and our total liability for any claim about the app is limited to the amount you paid for it (the app is currently free). Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

7. Ending your licence

You can stop using LaneLens at any time by uninstalling it. Your licence ends automatically if you break these terms, and we may suspend or end access to the app or its services at any time. When it ends, you must stop using the app and delete it. Sections 2, 4, 5, 6 and this section still apply after it ends.

8. Changes

We may update these terms. We'll change the effective date above, and if the change is significant we'll say so in the app or on this site. If you keep using the app after a change, you accept the new terms.
